About Lima (LIM)
Overlooking the Pacific Ocean and laying on the desert coast, Lima is the capital and the largest city of Peru. This beautiful city is nestled in thew valleys of Chillon, Rimac and Lurin Rivers. The history of this place traces back to pre-Columbian era. Mounted at an elevation of 1,600ft above the mean sea level, the land comprises clusters of isolated hills. Despite its location in the tropics and desert, Lima has a climate that is pleasantly mild. Lima abounds with structures that were built during 16th, 17th and further centuries. Raised in 16th century, Iglesia de Santo Domingo and its monasteries are beautiful masterpieces. Casa Aliaga and Santuario de Santa Rosa de Lima are two magnificent structures built during 5th and 17th centuries respectively. Then there are two historical mansions, Casa de la Riva and Casa Pilatos, which feature wooden balconies, elegant patio and antique furnishing. The land has one important archaeological site, Pachacamac; this is a pre-Columbian citadel built around AD 100. Other one is Huaca Huallamarca that dates to AD 200 to AD 500. Lima has a large number of museums, each one of them featuring distinct style of building, unique patterning, dating to different centuries. Decorated with subtle carving, ceramic insertions, ornate ceilings, complex weaving, and so much more the structures make the visitors spellbound. Cast a look at Museo Rafael Larco Herrea, Museo Nacional de Antropologia, Museo Taurino, Museo de Historia Natural and Convento de Los Descalzos. Apart from historical, there are numerous galleries that display art by contemporary artists, academics, collection of artifacts and mosaics.
